29th December,2008 - End of another year
Well an end to another year, I've been a bit slack with news of late but thought that under the circumstances to give a bit of un update. Austrek has had a very good and very interesting year and next year is approaching rapidly. We on the committee would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday period, we hope to see you all next year at the meetings and Away missions, so please stay safe.

Also we have had some bad news of late with the death of Majel Roddenberry. We on the committee were taken by surprise, last we had heard was that she had finished recording here voice for the computer in the new Star Trek movie. We send our condolences to her friends and family and wish her well on he next journey.

We have also lost one of our members Andrew Blundell, we don't have any information on the circumstances but we were saddened with the information. Andrew was a regular Captain's Log contributor. The Austrek Committee would like to sent our condolences to his friends and family.

Lastly please keep an eye on the Events page as we are still ironing the details on the meetings and Away missions.

30th September,2008 - The Spring Cometh
Spring time is just around the corner and the year so far has been interesting for me anyway. The September meeting went well I got a few bargains how about you, I just ran out of money. We didn't get as many members as I'd hoped but the day went well so I think we'll keep up the annual Traders Day.

The next meeting is October "Mystery Trek Theatre" I hope we get a good attendance from what I've heard so far it will be a great day very funny.

Also a reminder to people the November meeting has been moved to the second week of November because of our away mission on the first week to Armageddon, hope to see you all there.

14th August,2008 - Where has the year gone
August has come so fast I can't believe the year has gone so fast. As you may have heard we have lost a great man in the Sci-Fi universe this last month, Don S Davis has moved on from this world. I'm sure we all wish him well and that we all celebrate the life he lived, and never forget him.
The August meeting went well I hope you all got out of it what you needed to know about Collecting.
The September meeting will be one we annually hold, the The Ferengi Great Bizarre Traders Day, so bring plenty of latnum or dollars what ever you want to trade with, believe me you will find a bargain. See you all at the meeting.

21st July, 2008 - A Couple of the best
June and July meeting went well the Arts and Crafts and show and tell meeting did okay with a few showing there wares, but not allot of participation. If you thought that the meeting was not a good idea we would like to hear from you, if you have better ideas for a meeting please let us know, you can contact us through snail mail, email or phone. The July meeting was allot more fun, all though attendance wasn't were we would like to keep using the room upstairs but everyone seemed to have fun playing Trekleberity Heads and the mini trivia went well. Please if you had a good time please write a review of the meeting for The Captains Log.

25th May, 2008 - Babylon Trek
May meeting was very exiting, Tracy Scoggins was a wonderful guest. She's a Sci Fi fan just like us. Her anecdotes from Babylon 4, Lois and Clark and Star Trek DS9 were very interesting and some very funny stories. She was a great guest.

The annual Multi Club Mini Con seemed to have went well with around 90 people attending. I hope all of you who attended had a great time. For those who attended please write a review of the day to and send it in to be published in The Captain's Log. If you have any comments or ideas for next year we would also like to hear from you, maybe in the form of a letter to the editor. The new editor of The Captains Log would like to ask members to write in with review of books, Austrek meetings, Austrek Away Missions, films, new or old series, letters to the editor or just letters to Austrek and its committee anything that you think should be included in The Log. It is always hard to fill the pages of The Captains Log when our members and not contributing, we have to resort to publishing things from the web to fill the pages.

As I always say it's your club, what ever you put in to it, you will get out, it's up to you, not the next person, because I tell you now, the next person is thinking "I'll leave it for someone else to contribute" and then we have a hard time filling The Captains Log, running Meetings and Away missions. Contact Us with your comments or ideas.

7th April, 2008 - A Great Month Ahead
This months meeting went well we got to see the first two parts of the independent film Star Trek of Gods and Men. and a very funny Star Wars short independent film called Wounded Storm Trooper.

I would like to welcome those new members who have joined Austrek at and since Supanova, for those of you who are willing to participate we will have a great time. See you at the Meetings and Away Missions.

At the meeting we put the question to the members; Would you be willing to pay an extra 50 cents for entry into the club meetings so that we can use the top room of the town hall, which is larger, has a kitchen we can use, and also has a balcony with a view of the city, this room also costs more than twice of what we currently pay for room 2A. There was about 99% vote for yes. If we can keep our monthly attendance over 40 this will be viable so please support your club and join us monthly. If you would like to have your say please Contact Us regarding your thought on this subject.

It was also announced at the last meeting that the May Austrek meeting "Arts and Crafts" & "Show and Tell" will be re scheduled to later on in the year and that May will be replaced with a Austrek/First Contact Conventions Convention. Special guest will be in person Tracy Scoggins and live by two way satellite ? ? ?. Check our Events page and First Contact Conventions Website for full details and price, only 80 seats available. To book your tickets go to www.firstcontactconventions.com.au .

See you all at the May Meeting don't miss it or you will kick yourself.

3rd March, 2008 - Vote 1 Pedro
For those of you attending the March elections I would like to thank you for participating, even though we haven't yet elected a Vice President from memory this is one of the biggest committees we have elected in years.

This months meeting was a great success after getting the AGM out of the way pretty quickly. We had a very exiting and comprehensive rundown of Austrek's beginnings and history, we on the committee would like to thank those who participated.

I would also like to thank those past committee members who weren't or chose not to be re-elected into the committee, for there hard work in keeping Austrek going.

7th February, 2008 - A Fun Start to the year
The February meeting was a lot of fun, thanks to all who attended and congratulations to the winning team. It was very close there for a few minutes when we thought that Starwalking was going to win (how embarrassing).

The next months meeting is the Annual General Meeting, were you the members get to elect the next committee. We hope to see a lot of you there to support the running of the club.

After the boring part (the AGM) we have a special guest who will be presenting a couple of his fan films. For those who wish to nominate for the any club positions please get your forms in ASAP, we have extended the dead line. So please support you club, many hands make light work.

See you at the meeting

1st January, 2008 - A New Start
Hi all and welcome to the new web site. It's not much different from the old but it is easier to manage and covers a lot more than the old one. If any of our members are web designers and would like to volunteer their time to help build a better site please contact the committee.

Anyway, we have a full year ahead. You will see some subtle changes to the way the club is run this year along with a few extra volunteers (hopefully) and a few things to help the meetings run smoother. You will also see some new Austrek merchandise appear throughout the year. Hopefully with the first meeting we will introduce the next in the set of mugs we have started releasing. When fully released the mugs set will be the white previously released, then the original series command colors: Yellow, Red and Blue.

This first six months have been scheduled (check the Current Events page for details). But keep a close eye on this page as there may be some pleasant changes and additions. The committee hope to see all of you at our monthly meetings. If you're unable to attend the monthly meeting we hope to see you at one of our semi regular away missions.

See you all soon
LL&P
