About Us
AUSTREK, The Star Trek Fan Club Inc, is a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, Australia.
Established in 1976, AUSTREK is a social club for individuals of all ages and from many different walks of life who share a common interest in the television and movie franchise Star Trek. AUSTREK is a great way for Star Trek fans to meet regularly and join in activities such as trivia games, costuming, quizzes, alien make-up techniques, conventions, picnics, phaser-strike tournaments, social BBQs, debates, costumed film premieres and heaps more.
We also have our regular newsletter, The Captain's Log which contains Star Trek and general science fiction news, book and film reviews, letters, articles, club news and lots more. In your Log you'll also find information on social activities, regular meetings and special events, including upcoming conventions.
In addition, your AUSTREK membership will get you discounts on Star Trek merchandise and services from participating businesses around Melbourne, including discount entry to conventions run by First Contact Conventions.
People often ask, "Why is Star Trek so popular?" At AUSTREK, we believe the positive vision of the future each episode envisages is the answer.
Gene Roddenberry's vision of all mankind working together in a great quest for knowledge sets the theme for each show and gives all the peoples of planet Earth a goal to work towards.

Austrek Committee Members
AUSTREK's Committee consists of a President, a Vice President, a General Secretary, a Treasurer, and up to five general committee members. The committee is voted in annually at our Annual General Meeting (usually in March of each year).
Below are listed the committee for 2025.
Anyone wishing to help out we would really love to hear from you. It's entirely voluntary, surprisingly fun, and a bit of hard work. But the more people we have the less each one has to do - it's all about teamwork!
If you're interested in joining the Committee and helping us organise and run events for Austrek, or even if you just want to find out more, please contact us at [email protected].

Bruce Seidl - President
Bruce found out about Austrek at a Star Trek Convention a long time ago and has been a member now for 25 years. For 7 of those years he was on Committee, first as Treasurer and then as Vice President.
Bruce has also been made a life member of Austrek, thanks to his long years of service and unwavering support.

Amanda Millear - General Committee
I have been a member of Austrek for 12 years (since November 2014), and my first door prize was in 2015. Since then I have won many door prizes! Over the years I have done many special things for the Committee and for Austrek, and I have also donated money on lots of occasions to help the club.
I attended my first ever Gala Ball that was 40 years of Austrek and 50 years of Star Trek, which was at the Amora Hotel in Richmond. I wore my Captain's Uniform for the first time and I felt proud wearing this. I also won best dancer prize and since then I have been known as the Dancing Queen.
This is my seventh year on the committee, including 4 years as General Committee (2019 to 2022) and 3 years as Vice President (2023-2025). I am very proud to be serving.
I love going to Austrek meetings and have been to lots of meetings, committee meetings and sub-committee meetings (including to help with planning the 50th Anniversary Celebrations coming up soon) as well as special events and away missions.

Jan MacNally
Jan MacNally first joined Austrek in 1985 and later served as Membership Secretary for a few years. She soon became a Klingon and even made her own vinyl and metal armour despite not having advanced sewing machine skills. She also joined a few other SF clubs (Star Walking Inc. [she is an honorary lifetime member in recognition of her services to the club] and Melbourne Science Fiction Club [MSFC]). She successfully served on several convention committees and as newsletter and con book editor.
Jan then took time out to raise her family (but still managed to attend the Austrek 40th/Star Trek 50th anniversary Gala Ball with her grown daughter, with them winning the Best Couple award as Lwaxana and Deanna Troi). She has recently returned to fandom, rejoining Austrek a few years ago, and as a general committee member in 2025. She is a skilled writer and editor, a published author and avid fan of both Jane Austen and Lord of the Rings. She believes it’s possible to love both Star Wars and Star Trek and won’t choose between them (much like her children).
